Crystal Klein was born in Austria (no, not the place with the kangaroos - Austria, that's where Arnold Schwarzenegger comes from, I'm sure that helps ;-) ) in 1981 and grew up with very loving parents and my older sister. My childhood was as perfect as it can be and my background perfectly normal (sorry, no childhood traumas or anything else spectacular).
From an early age both music and sports were very important parts of my life. I won several national championships in rhythmical sports gymnastic and in snowboarding, my favorite sport of all time (yes, exactly, Austria is a country with many, many mountains ;-) ). Playing the piano has also been a passion I dedicated myself to at a very early age.
At the age of 15 this hobby/talent of mine made me decide to go to a school whose emphasis was put on music. I was taught different instruments there and also had to take written tests in music. That of course didn't mean other subjects were less important in this particular school. Especially for a perfectionist like me, it was more than natural to never bring home anything else but A-grades. I graduated at 18 and got rewarded with a very precious golden ring of honor for having received nothing but A-grades in my final exam. This day was definitely one of the best in my life. Everything I have worked for so hard was rewarded - what a great feeling.
After my graduation it was clear that I would move to Vienna in order to study psychology - another passion of mine. There I studied for almost 3 years, again putting almost too much effort into school. At some point I felt totally burnt out and felt like I was missing out on life due to my perfectionism concerning school. It was simply time for a change. So I went for a very radical change - I decided to move to a place where there is sun, the ocean (we don't have much of either of those) and wind and waves for the best water sport there is according to my own windsurfing fanatic family and friends: windsurfing obviously. Well, my choice was Maui of course - the ideal place for all of those things.
Of course I needed money after a few months of living this dream and I started to get into swimsuit modeling since naturally there is quite a big market for that in Hawaii. At some point a model agent from L.A. discovered me on the internet and flew me over to L.A. Well, from then on things were happening so fast, I still can't believe it. On my first trip to L.A. I started shooting for the top glamour photographers of the whole world like Suze Randall, Earl Miller, and many more. Suddenly everyone wanted to shoot me and my name got pretty popular. I made the right connections and things started to take off for me.
Still, I decided to stay on Maui and live there because it simply is the place I love and consider my home now. Every few weeks I go to L.A. to shoot for magazines, videos or - most importantly- my website. I am going to update my content as often as possible and this needs a lot of dedication, believe me!
Since modeling is so time consuming and all I can focus on right now, I put my studies on hold. Still I am sure to finish my psychology studies later on and finally work as a psychotherapist. As a balance to this hectic life of a full time model, I got into yoga which is quite big here on the island. But of course my music still has the most therapeutic power for me. When I need some time out I simply sit down on my piano and write a song about whatever I feel.
