Is Genital Shaving Unhealthy

This is a question regaurding your advise about GENTIAL SHAVING. is there ANY health risk you shaving the genital area? I have kept myself shaved clean since I was 16. (41 now). But this past weekend I thought I had hurt myself at work, I had gone into see my a Doctor thinking I had a Hernia. (thank god I didn\’t.) but he informed me that shaving myself as I do is unhealthy. Is there any thruth to this? or is he just a bible thumping MD that thinks anything not of GOd is just plain wrong.? Also, is there any health risk toward Females that shave as well? my girlfriend shaves for the simple reason that I like it better that way. PLEASE HELP ME. :) looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Glad you are ok! :)
    I’m not a doctor, but I’ve researched this topic carefully. I also shave, and my gynocologist when I was 19 seemed to think it was odd, but no doctor has mentioned it since. Shaving can nick skin and irritate hair follicles, making it easier for bacteria to enter the body, but this is true on any area of skin. Sometimes these irritations can become infected and cause cysts (pimples), but a simple visit for a prescription cream will take care of that. That can happen more easily on the genital area because the skin is so thin and sensitive. Otherwise, I know of no health risk to genital shaving.
